Choosing Eyeglasses

Personal preference. As much as an outside opinion helps, you're the one who will be stuck looking at yourself in the mirror every day!

The size and style of frames you select is very important. The right choice can detract or enhance your face. Don't look at the price tag right off the bat. Try on the frames first, then pass judgement.

The results, by the way, of your eye test will also determine how thick or thin the actual lenses will need to be, and can affect the overrall look. That's where you need to ask the clerk for advice as far as how the lens will fit in the actual frame.

I need some help in choosing eyeglasses for me.Until now I have been wearing metal framed spectacles for the past 5 years.Since then I have been troubled by these frames even though they are of good brand.Over a period of usage they get bent by our regular activities like traveling by bus,playing sports etc and become uncomfortable to wear.So now I am planning to get a plastic/fiber made frame because I feel that they won't bend as observed in the previous case.So,if anybody has used both the kind of frames please let me know which one would be more comfortable to wear and why.

so go for the plastic/fiber one. I think it is better than the metal frame but it's your decision! or you might want to wear contact lenses

There are so many brands of eyeglass lenses: super famous ones, average ones, and no brand. Does it really make a difference?

If the brand DOES make a difference, which brands have the best quality/price ratio?

Without a doubt.

Ever take pictures with a disposable camera? What about a point and shoot camera? Now, what about with a professional camera? If you haven't... maybe you can visualize the quality of each of the pictures that would results from those lenses. Now translate that to the lenses that will sit in front of your eyes.

Branded lenses are generally a good thing because they have earned their name for the reputation of the quality of their product. Eyeglass lenses are no different. You want the best optics for which you will be viewing the world.

I know, dumb question.. >_< When I wear my glasses, my eyes are like bulging.. or like I'm becoming cross-eyed. They say it's because of astigmatism and I just had to get used to it but I develop a headache after an hour or so of wearing it. I got my eyes examined and changed glasses twice already but still the same result..

Maybe the doctor made your prescription too strong. When you take your eye exam, the number one rule is to relax and not squint to try to see. On the other hand, don't say you can't see if you can. even if you can make it out a little, that will give a more accurate result.

Not counting contact or surgery. Heavy frames are only fashion statement? What are the comfort & safety points in choosing eyeglasses?

Rimless Glasses are less noticable than most glasses, however they aren't for everyone. I say that because glasses can be tricky due to your prescription, lifestyle, faceshape, and how they fit.

For comfort, you want something that will fit your face well. Make sure your eyes are centered in the frame and the temples (commonly known as the arms, wings) are the appropriate distance from your side of the head to behind your ear.

For Safety, polycarbonate lenses are impact resistent. They won't shatter like plastic.
