Gold value of antique eyeglasses?

What's the gold value of a pair of antique eyeglasses? They look like the kind of glasses Ben Franklin wore (I doubt they're that old), the frame is highly crafted, and they have markings that indicate they're 18k gold. Is it worth turning them into a jeweler for their gold value, or are they worth more as an antique?

Probably worth more as an antique, depending on the age. Try looking into that.

Anyone good with antiques??

i have found an antique pair of eyeglasses...the inner part of the frame says 14k and the case says "trombley mattapan mass" can anyone help me find information on this and maybe how much theyre worth?!?!?!?
i have looked on ebay, yahoo, and google....i cant find it anywhere..im thinking maybe theyre not made by trombley but bought else where...the side reds exactly "01/10.12kGF"

Try a search engine. Or possibly the Antiques Roadshow. Or you could look for it on e-bay. They sound as if they were expensive when purchased.
Peace.

Here's another option I did not think of before. Take them to a reputable jeweler. They maybe able to tell you something.
Peace.

Do they still make pince-nez glasses?

I really think pince-nez spectacles are cool, but the only ones I can find to buy on the internet are either antiques or costume accessories.

If you don't know what pince-nez is, look it up
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pince_nez
I would want the glasses to be of modern style, but with the pince-nez design. If possible I would want them to be real prescription eyeglasses that I could wear for daily use. I notice that they are almost always circular frames, I would not want circular frames.

In addition, would it be terribly odd to wear pince-nez glasses all the time? Would this be kind of like wearing a monacle to work?
People would probably notice them but would they think them to be neat and stylish, or strange and unusual.

It looks like these guys can make you pince-nez glasses using whatever frames you provide: http://www.eyeglasseswarehouse.com/pince -nez-hardsizefit.html

Or you could go one step further and avoid the nez altogether - http://www.livescience.com/technology/06 0522_pierce_glasses.html

People's reaction will be probably influenced by how "cool" they think you are already - or how cool you come off as. If your worried about freak factor don't try the pierce ones.

I say let your freak flag fly!

Whistle your own tune.
Even if no one is listening,
even if the wind drowns you out
or your whistle startles you
echoing back from an empty warehouse.

Whistle your own tune
and you will hear crows caw the back beat
and the ropes of flagpoles clang in syncopation.
Whistle long enough and true enough and
someday somewhere something will begin whistling in harmony.

While we're best known for our work with antique eyeglasses and vintage 80's framestock, we also have a few brand-spanking-new-manufactured-in-2009 frames. Interestingly, they look like something your great-grandfather probably wore to the grave. Welcome to the weird world of Shuron, one of the nation's oldest frame manufacturers. The company was formed in 1865, serviced American soldiers in both World Wars, invented the "browline" frame style (see Malcolm X), and is still somehow going strong. After my emails to them went unanswered, I discovered that they prefer to deal with clients over the phone. As old-fashioned as they are, I'm surprised they even have a website. Regardless, we're now carrying an ever-growing stock of their classic frames. There are a ton of different colors and sizes, so if you don't find exactly what you're looking for, we can likely order it for you.

We are an independent optical dispensary in Wicker Park, Chicago. After a decade working in the corporate optical industry we decided to go solo, doing exactly the opposite of what we were told. As a small business, we place the utmost emphasis on building our client base slowly and organically. Like our namesake animal, we hope to grow our family exponentially, using honesty and compulsive attention to detail to create a positive reputation in the community. Our mysterious lone employee holds an Advanced Certification from the American Board of Opticianry and will offer you experienced, intelligent advice.
